ABOUT

Repugnant was a Swedish death metal band from Norsborg, Stockholm, active from 1998 to 2004. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Mary Goore — the early alias of Tobias Forge, who would later go on to found Ghost — the band quickly became recognized as one of the first revivalists of the classic Swedish death metal sound, drawing comparisons to the raw, unpolished ferocity of the genre’s early ’90s golden era. Their only studio album, Epitome of Darkness, was recorded in 2002 but sat unreleased until 2006, two years after the band dissolved. Critically celebrated for its old-school authenticity, the record has since earned cult status among death metal devotees. Repugnant briefly reunited in 2010–2011 for a handful of live performances, closing the chapter at Maryland Deathfest. Swedish Death Metal author Daniel Ekeroth described their sound as “amazingly old school-sounding death metal you must hear to believe.”
